PROJECT OVERVIEW
Anomaly and Dick’s Sporting Goods asked runners across the country “What do you run for?”, then crafted a short anthology series designed to connect to the emotional side of their athlete audience.
They tapped director Nico Carbonaro to tell the story of one of running’s unsung heroes, 72 year old Julia Chase Brand, and the single decision that changed her life – and lives of millions of women – on a fall day fifty years before.
THE STORY
In 1961 women were prohibited from running in public road races in the US. But 16 year old Julia Chase showed up anyway. Her action brought attention to the rights of female athletes – and sparked a movement that changed the laws forever. The film tells the story of a life spent breaking down barriers.
"If I had backed down then, I might very well have backed down on other things in the rest of my life.”
